Conway SC Dental Fillings

How is a Cavity Treated?

With a dental filling, of course! Once the decayed areas of the tooth have been drilled away by our dental team, we will need to restore and rebuild those areas of the tooth. If we didn’t place a dental filling the tooth would remain weak, which can leave it prone to chips and cracks. By placing a filling we can nearly restore the tooth back to its full strength and resiliency.

What Types of Fillings Do You Place?

Tooth-colored fillings provide even more advantages over other types of dental fillings because they are made to match the color of your tooth (because the rest of the world doesn’t need to know that you have a filling). Tooth-colored fillings are often made from composite resin. Composite resin is highly moldable, which means that we can easily shape and contour it to the surface of your tooth to fill the hole and rebuild it. A thin layer of material is placed, shaped, and then hardened permanently to the tooth before placing the next layer. Layer after layer of resin is applied until the tooth is completely filled.

What are the Benefits of a Tooth-Colored Dental Filling?

Tooth-colored fillings are quite resilient and strong, lasting up to 15 years or more when cared for properly. This means visiting our dental team twice a year for routine dental cleanings so we can make sure the filling is still strong and intact. Keeping your teeth clean and protecting your teeth from excessive wear and tear (for example, wearing a nightguard if you grind your teeth at night) can improve the longevity of your fillings.
